Electric Choice
What is electric choice?
Many consumers have the power to choose an electricity supplier like AEP Energy to help manage the electricity supply portion of their electricity bill. Local utilities participating in electric choice allow you to choose who supplies your generation service and what price you pay for it. When you choose AEP Energy as your energy supply provider, you’ll enjoy a secure electricity supply price while receiving distribution and transmission services from your local utility.
How does electric choice work?
Put simply, there are three major components in providing electricity: Generation (the actual electricity supply), Transmission (large transmission lines and towers that carry electricity over longer distances), and Distribution (local electric poles and wires). In Ohio, customers are free to choose who supplies the generation portion of their electricity supply service. They can purchase these services from a Competitive Retail Electric Service (CRES) provider such as AEP Energy.

Renewable Energy
Why choose renewable energy?
The sun, wind, water or heat from the earth are sustainable energy sources. Since they are replenished daily, they are a source of essentially unlimited energy. There are also numerous environmental, health, and economic benefits associated with selecting electricity generated from natural, renewable resources.
When you go green, you’ll get peace of mind knowing that you’ve made a sound choice that supports renewable energy resources as well as helping to preserve and protect the environment for future generations.
Who is Green-e® Energy?
AEP Energy is proud to offer residential customers the opportunity to choose ECO-Advantage®, a renewable option that matches 100% of your electricity usage with national, Green-e Energy Certified, Wind Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). Green-e Energy, the nation’s leading independent certification and verification program for renewable energy, certifies that ECO-Advantage meets the highest environmental and consumer protection standards.

What is renewable energy?
Renewable energy comes from natural sources that are constantly and sustainably replenished such as wind, solar or hydro. Renewable energy resources are 100% pollution-free and have lower greenhouse gas emissions than traditional energy resources.
What is ECO-Advantage®?
ECO-Advantage® is an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional electricity plans. As a renewable option, ECO-Advantage matches 100% of your electricity usage with national, Green-e® Energy Certified, Wind Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
Here are a few reasons why you should choose ECO-Advantage:
- Match 100% of your usage with national Green-e Energy certified wind renewable energy certificates
- Manage your budget and feel good knowing you are supporting a cleaner environment
- Continue to receive the same electricity service and one monthly bill from your local utility
- No interruption of service or installation of additional equipment
You’ll get peace of mind knowing that you’ve made a sound choice that supports renewable energy resources as well as helping to preserve and protect the environment for the many generations to come.
It’s simple to go green! Please see the renewable price plans for your area or request a quote for your business.
What is a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC)?
ECO-Advantage® is comprised of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). A REC is the environmental attribute associated with the generation of one megawatt hour of renewable energy. Each REC embodies different characteristics that vary depending on the generation facility. Buying RECs helps build a market for renewable electricity. It also has other environmental benefits such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
ECO-Advantage is a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) product and does not contain electricity. A REC represents the environmental benefits of 1 megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable energy that can be paired with electricity. For more information, see the information below.
Your purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) supports renewable electricity production in the region of generation. For every unit of renewable electricity generated, an equivalent amount of RECs is produced, and by purchasing and pairing RECs with your electricity service you are using and receiving the benefits of that renewable electricity. You will continue to receive a separate electricity bill from your utility for electricity service [if applicable]. Your REC purchase also helps build a market for renewable electricity. Increased demand for and generation of renewable electricity helps reduce conventional electricity generation in the region where the renewable electricity generator is located. It also has other local and global environmental benefits which may include emitting little or no regional air pollution or carbon dioxide. The RECs in ECO-Advantage are verified and certified by Green-e Energy®, and AEP Energy is required to disclose the quantity, type and geographic source of each certificate. Please see the Product Content Label for this information. Green-e Energy also verifies that the renewable certificates are not sold more than once or claimed by more than one party. For information on Green-e Energy please visit its website,
www.green-e.org.
