What is AEP Energy’s Business Referral Program?
Since you are a part of the AEP Energy family, we want to reward you for referring business customers to us. With our Business Referral Program, you can earn up to $1,000 in bill credits for every qualifying new business customer you refer that enrolls with AEP Energy.

How does AEP Energy’s Business Referral Program work?
We make it simple for you to earn some money for your business by spreading the word about AEP Energy and referring businesses to us. Our easy, online referral form takes just a few minutes to complete. Simply complete the online referral form and we’ll take care of the rest! We will notify you if/when your referred business enrolls with us and as a thank you, you’ll receive a bill credit amount based on the annual energy usage of the referred business within 90 days of enrollment. The table below shows the bill credit amount you could receive per qualifying referral.

The bill credit is not payable upon enrollment. The qualifying referral must remain in good standing for two billing cycles before you will receive the bill credit.

Is there a limit on the number of businesses I can refer?
No, there is no limit to the amount of businesses you can refer. You will want to understand the tax implications related to receiving rewards for this program. See the related FAQ below.

What states does AEP Energy serve?
AEP Energy is a certified competitive retail electricity and natural gas supply provider operating in 27 service territories in six states and Washington, D.C. The states we serve are Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.

How will I know when a business I referred enrolled with AEP Energy and the amount I will receive?
AEP Energy will contact you via email when a business you referred enrolls with us.

When will I receive my bill credit?
You will receive a one-time bill credit after the Referral enrolls with AEP Energy and remains current on payments and in good standing for two monthly billing cycles after enrollment. The overall time after enrollment is about 90 days.

If I have referred multiple businesses to AEP Energy, how will I know which bill credit corresponds to which referred business?
We will email you each time a business you referred enrolls with AEP Energy so you will know which of your referrals have enrolled. You should expect a bill credit after about 90 days, assuming the referral remains in good standing for two months after enrollment.

How long does it typically take for a business to sign up with AEP Energy?
Each sales cycle differs, but rest assured our sales force will do its best to help you get your referral reward.

Are there eligibility requirements to participate in the AEP Energy Business Referral Program?
The three main eligibility requirements are 1) the referral must come from a current AEP Energy business customer; 2) the referral is not eligible if the business is already an AEP Energy customer; and 3) the business referral must have an annual usage over 50 megawatt hours (MWh) and sign at least a 12-month term. Are there any tax implications that I need to know about for this program?
You may may refer an unlimited number of potential businesses to AEP Energy, but if you earn more than $600 in bill credits in any given calendar year, you may be issued a Form 1099-MISC in accordance with federal tax law.

Do I need to be an AEP Energy business customer to refer a business?
Yes, you need to be an AEP Energy business customer.

The business I referred said they enrolled with AEP Energy, but I never received a bill credit. What should I do?
Please contact your AEP Energy sales representative or call our Customer Care Team at 1-866-258-3782.

Instead of going to the online referral form, can I just send an email to the business I want to refer and have them contact you?
In order for us to track your business referral and reward you for successful referrals, all business referrals should be submitted through the online referral form. To make it convenient, we have several options for who else can submit your online referral, including the referred business, your AEP Energy sales representative, or an AEP Energy Customer Care Team member. If you would like your referred business to submit the online form, please be sure to give them the program website and your unique referral code.
