Understanding Energy-Efficient Appliances and Products

The holiday season has arrived and that means many of us will be spending a lot of time and energy in the kitchen. Perhaps you’ve considered investing in energy-efficient appliances but wonder if they’re worth the cost to upgrade. We can help.

How much money and energy can I really save?

You may be wondering if you switch to energy-efficient appliances, how much money can you really save? Energy-efficient appliances can come with a slightly higher upfront cost, but most consumers find that they are still saving money because the appliance is using less energy while still providing the same service. Energy StarÒ, a designation created by the US Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has a useful calculator on their website that can help you understand just how much you could save.

How do I know if a product or appliance is energy efficient?

Every single household appliance must meet very specific parameters to earn the Energy Star designation. The National Appliance Energy Conservation Act (NAECA) set minimum energy efficiency standards that must be met for any appliance to be sold in America, and Energy Star appliances must use less than the set standards. Thus, a rigorous testing protocol and review, specific to each appliance, is followed to make sure that it is using as little energy as possible without any compromise on performance.

Where can I find energy-efficient products?

There are many ways to shop for energy-efficient appliances and products. The Energy Star website can help you find products as well as applicable rebates. AEP Energy Reward Store also has a variety of energy and water efficient and connected home products available, from LED lights to controlled shower heads to smart home systems.

If you’re considering upgrading your home’s appliances or products, selecting energy-efficient models will lower your home’s energy consumption and save you money all year round.
