Celebrate Earth Month and Beyond

Every year since 1970, during April, plentiful opportunities arise to do good for the earth during Earth Month, on Earth Day, and beyond. Let’s take action to protect our natural resources and preserve the environment for future generations to come. Here are a few Earth Month actions that can make a difference today and every day.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

Create less waste by recycling and reducing the things you dispose of to help size of landfills and the methane gas they produce. Check with your local recycling program to ensure you are recycling properly.

Volunteer

Discover, organize, or participate in local community clean-up events. These efforts will beautify your surroundings and raise awareness of environmental stewardship.

Conserve Water

The less water you use, the less runoff water will end up in our oceans. Identify and fix leaks inside your home to prevent water waste. Use a rain barrel to collect water to use in your garden.

Shop Wisely

Ditch the disposables and stop using single-use plastics. Start using reusable bags and items to reduce plastic pollution, an increasing problem worldwide.

Plant a tree

Trees are a great source of food and oxygen. They clean the air we breathe, improve soil health, provide habitat for biodiversity, and absorb carbon! If you enroll in a renewable energy plan with AEP Energy, we will plant a tree on your behalf in partnership with One Tree Planted.

Upgrade to Energy-Efficient Products

Upgrade to longer-lasting LED bulbs to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, or a smart thermometer to help lower your home’s energy usage. Shop AEP Energy Reward Store, our online marketplace, where customers can find many energy-saving products to upgrade their homes.

Together, we can make a difference to help combat climate change. Here’s to nurturing our planet, one small action at a time, and celebrating Earth Month today, and carrying that commitment into every day.
