Ohio State Solar Array Update

In the spirit of Earth Day, AEP Energy is proud of the role we play in helping to support environmental sustainability within our community. We continue to provide 100% renewable energy supply options for homes and businesses, as well as partnering with a local organization, Green Energy Ohio, to build awareness of the benefits of utilizing renewable resources. Most recently, AEP Energy collaborated with The Ohio State University on a solar project to help further the university’s goal of energy diversification.
While students and faculty are busy inside Ohio State’s Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC), the solar array housed on the roof of the facility is generating energy to help run a portion of its operation. AEP Energy completed the installation of this 101-kilowatt (kW) solar array in September 2014. The approximately 10,000-square-foot array is made-up of 367 solar panels arranged in a configuration similar to the “Block O.” The solar array generates approximately 116,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually.
“This project marked a significant milestone in our history as AEP Energy’s first solar installation project,” said John Koontz, project manager, AEP Energy. “The output of the array is right on target with our expectations, and the array features newer technology that operates the system more efficiently and allows us to see the performance of each module.”
The installation supports Ohio State’s sustainability efforts and allowed the university to add solar to its energy supply mix, just as AEP Energy helped to bring Ohio-generated wind energy to the campus portfolio in 2012.
AEP Energy makes it easy for customers to embrace environmental sustainability by offering 100% renewable energy price plans. By selecting a green electricity supply plan for your home, you can support renewable energy resources and make a positive impact on the environment. AEP Energy also provides energy management solutions for businesses to help them use energy more efficiently while spending less for it. To learn more, please visit www.AEPenergy.com.
