January 6th, 2025 – Markets kicked off the week on a high note, buoyed by forecasts of below-normal temperatures sticking around through mid-January. We’re now seeing cold weather developments shaping up for the January 20th-24th window. As a result, on-peak power prices surged over $20/mwh for the balance of the month product.
January 3rd, 2025 – The markets continued their dramatic reversal from the end-of-year rally, thanks to weather models dialing back the severity of next week’s cold snap. Power prices wrapped up the week in sync with a softer natural gas market. The extreme cold spell now looks to be a brief, one-week affair.
