Monday January 5 — Rolling into the new week, the trend continues. Weekend weather models still aren’t giving us that January chill, which means power and gas prices are staying under a bit of pressure. Mild forecasts, light liquidations… all of it adding up to a market that’s easing off the throttle. For consumers and buyers, that’s not the worst way to start a Monday.
Friday January 2 — Wrapping up the week: those colder temperatures everyone was waiting for? They’re taking their sweet time showing up. And in the world of power markets, that kind of delay has a way of nudging prices lower. The front of the curve slid sharply, and power followed suit across the board. Natural gas came along for the ride, too. Mild weather and some soft liquidation out there kept things calm, cool, and—yes—cheaper.
