Preparing for Moving Season

If you’re moving, let us help you keep a good thing going!

It’s that time of year, again. Spring is turning into summer and for many people, it’s moving season. Relocating to a new home can be frustrating with many tedious details mixed in amongst the larger and more obvious physical tasks. If you happen to be moving, one way to make that transition a little easier is to prepare for your electricity enrollment in advance so you have the peace of mind that comes with a stable fixed rate plan of your choice.

Approximately 35 million Americans move each year and if you’re one of them, you’ll want to take AEP Energy and your Reward Dollars with you! Depending on the location and state of your new home, you may be able to transfer your current energy plan to your new residence.

How does it work?

If moving to a location within the same service area: Residents of Pennsylvania may be able to keep AEP Energy as your existing supplier when you move to a new address within the same service area with a program called Seamless Move. You should call your electric distribution company to provide a disconnect date for the old account and a connect date for the new account within the same phone call. If you are eligible for the Seamless Move program, you will be able to keep AEP Energy at your new location without interruption.

Residents of other deregulated states may not be able to continue with the same plan, but it is still a great idea to call AEP Energy Customer Care at 1-866-258-3782 and speak with an advocate who can assist you in enrolling in a plan with a rate and term that are right for your new home. We want to keep a good thing going which means helping remove the uncertainty of the cost of your energy bills once you’re in your new home!

If moving to a location in a new service area served by AEP Energy: Pennsylvania residents may be able arrange for AEP Energy as your supplier on the connect date for your new location with a program called Instant Connect. Customers meeting this criteria should call your electric distribution company to set-up service at the new location and then contact one of our Customer Care Representatives toll free at 1-866-258-3782 to let us know your plans. Click here to see what markets we serve.

Although you can’t transfer your agreement to the new location, you can sign up your new home under a new agreement and as long as you remain a customer you’ll take the balance of your Reward Dollars, too! We’ll take care of the details to coordinate supply service beginning day one.

Residents of other deregulated states who are moving to a new home or apartment outside of your current service area should call your electric distribution company to place a disconnect order and arrange for service at the new location. Then contact one of our Customer Care Representatives toll free at 1-866-258-3782 or by completing the form here to let us know your plans.

We will help set up enrollment for your new home with a plan that fits your life, whether it’s one stable fixed rate for months or even years or supports renewable electricity through the purchase of renewable energy certificates (RECs). And we will ensure as long as you remain a customer, your Reward Dollar balance follows you! Because we want you to take us with you when you move! If you may be enrolling in a new price plan, you can view our current offers here!
