You Can Choose Solar!

If you live in a deregulated state, you have energy choice, and the power to choose a supplier with energy options that fit the needs of your home or business. AEP Energy believes every customer should be able to benefit from renewable energy sources, including solar. Customer choice is important, and we want to make it easy for customers who are interested in solar options!

What is solar energy?

Photovoltaic (PV) cells, also known as solar cells, collect and change sunlight directly into electricity. The cells can be tiny enough to power a single watch or device, or several cells in PV panel arrays can produce enough electricity for a house or an entire community.

When sunlight encounters PV cells, it provides the energy to generate electricity. When enough sunlight is absorbed, electrons are dislodged from the material’s atoms.

The movement of electrons toward the front surface of the solar cell creates a voltage potential much like that of the terminals in a battery. Electrons on the cell are absorbed by electrical conductors and connected to an external load allowing electricity to flow in the circuit.

But why solar?

Sunlight is the most abundant energy resource on earth, and it has been used by humans for thousands of years for staying warm and drying foods to preserve them. The sun’s rays are so plentiful that 173,000 terawatts of solar energy, which is greater than 10,000 times the world’s total energy use, strike the earth continuously.

How can I find out if I’m ready to go solar?
