Did you know that June 21st is National Energy Shopping Day? That’s right! The Retail Energy Supply Association (RESA), the nation’s leading trade association representing competitive retail energy suppliers, found in their Survey of Americans that 74% of consumers prefer to select their own energy supplier. Although not every state is deregulated, thirteen states give their residents the power to shop for energy plans provided by competitive energy suppliers.
The benefit of energy choice
There are many upsides to purchasing energy from a competitive retail energy supplier, including a potentially lower rate, more customized plan options and there’s no interruption in your energy, as the same utility will continue to provide reliable service, energy, maintain lines and outages Whether you participate in energy choice or not, the supply is distributed in the same way. The difference is that consumers benefit by selecting a supplier of their choice that offers the price, term and percentage of renewable energy of their liking.
Most deregulated states have websites run by their individual Public Utilities Commission for comparison shopping. For example, in Ohio, you can visit the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio shopping site, Apples to Apples, to compare the rates of energy suppliers in your area.
